OUR HISTORY

1953

Southeastern Indiana Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc (SIRTC) was formed to provide telephone service to rural areas.

1956

Construction began to install dial exchanges to the San Jacinto, Cross Plains, Moores Hill & Canaan areas.

1979

SIRTC was entirely a one party system providing service to parts of Dearborn, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley & Switzerland counties. SIRTC also built and moved their primary office to Dillsboro.

1981

SIRTC upgraded their switching offices to digital and expanded their local calling area. A fiber optic transmission network was constructed that allowed SIRTC to link all of their service areas together with the toll center in Seymour.

1983

Hoosier Telcom was formed to perform outside plant construction and to sell and service Business Telephone (KEY) Systems.

1994

Hoosier Telcom became the local distributor of DIRECTV satellite programming and provided service to over 8,000 customers.

1995

SEI Data, the first local internet service provider in the area and a subsidiary of SIRTC, formed after SIRTC partnered with two area high schools and the College Cooperative of Southeastern Indiana to receive a grant from the National Science Foundation to provide and determine the demand for internet access in the rural part of southeastern Indiana.

1997

SEI Data became incorporated and invested in facilities to expand local internet service in eleven counties.

1999

Made up of several diverse companies, and to maximize personnel, technology resources and market awareness of our products and services we began doing business under the name SEI Communications.

2000

Ohio Valley Telecommunications was formed as a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) to provide local telephone service in the Madison area.

2003

SIRTC started laying fiber optic cable in an effort to offer DSL to the entire cooperative area. During this same period SEI Data, Inc. set up a network of towers and antennas to provide wireless high-speed internet.

2004

SEI Communications started to provide wireless high speed internet to Jefferson & Jennings counties and other areas not served by traditional land line services

2010

SIRTC began to resale Telispire Cellular Phone Service.

2011

SIRTC started construction of the Fiber to the Home project in Moores Hill

2012

SIRTC started construction of the Fiber to the Home project in San Jacinto. Also, SEI Communications began to resale Viasat Satellite Internet Service

2017

SIRTC started construction of the Fiber to the Home project in Cross Plains

2020

SIRTC started planning/construction for our new state of the art data center

2021

SIRTC started construction of the Fiber to the Home project in Canaan and SEI Communications entered in to a joint venture with SEI REMC to help provide much needed broadband connectivity to their customers.

2022

SIRTC finished our Fiber to the Home project and completed the build out with 94% of the fiber plant being buried.

2022

SEI Communications became a founding member of Hoosier Net, LLC - a multi-million dollar network across Indiana to provide statewide connectivity

2022

SEI Communications became a founding member of Accord Telecommunications Collaborative, LLC - a consortium of telephone and electric companies across Indiana to provide statewide connectivity
